Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

26 Jun 2021 (edited 12 Mar 2022)This route has 3 sections which I couldn’t follow: see 2nd Pencow route. Otherwise it was a good route, even with some long grass to wade through and a few stiles that needed to be crossed with care due to uneven ground below and nettles.
Problem areas:
1) Leaving Pencoed, I couldn’t find the footpath near the A473 roundabout. Instead, I followed the pedestrian/cycle sign towards Coychurch which involved a very short section of main road (wide footpath), then turned left into a quiet lane: straight on, then turn left to join the footpath across a field to Pant-y-gôg.
2) The right of way south-east of Heol-Las Farm over a couple of fields doesn’t seem to exist. I couldn’t find any signs or access points at either end so followed the road instead (no problem, quiet lanes).
3) The Pencow1 route involves a short section of road from a T-junction to Tewgoed, then a path to Penllyn. This road is busy and extremely hazardous (no verge, poor visibility), so I walked straight on along the side road (much quieter). Also, the Penllyn end of this footpath looked very overgrown.
