Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

22 Feb 2023This route is now replaced by Oldspr two because the route used a footbridge over Oldham Way now demolished and replaced by a signalised junction a short distance away. It should end at Grotton and not Springhead.

27 Aug 2021This is an easily walkable route starting from the 'bus terminus at Grotton, (technically not Springhead if I've read the map correctly) and for the most part using the course of a disused railway line to go into Oldham. The map suggests walking down the busy A669 for the first few hundred yards, but a minor and more pleasant deviation would be to walk down Station Road and pick up the old rail route at the remains of Grotton Station (Turn right past the children's playground). There's quite a steep climb out of Lees, but apart from that the route is level and well maintained. It is also possible to cycle along it. I've only given it four stars because there are two places where you have to cross a very busy road some distance from any facilities for pedestrians.
