Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

10 Jun 2023June 2023. Direction: Cwmbran to Newbridge.
A pleasant walk over Mynydd Maen, mainly over well established paths and lanes. The only difficulty was around Cil-Ionydd Farm, just before the descent into Newbridge, where there is no signage and no obvious path.
Coming out of Cwmbran centre, there is a better alternative than walking all the way up the busy and noisy Greenforge Way, by taking the footpath to the left immediately after the roundabout at the bottom, through a couple of fields and joining St. Dials Road, which is a quiet country lane that joins the next roundabout on Greenforge Way.
There are some lovely views over Cwmbran and the Lloyd Valley and beyond at several points on the way up the slopes of Mynydd Maen.

29 Jan 2022I enjoyed this route - varied scenery and good views. Most paths were clearly marked, but not across the fields near Cil-lonydd. Even so, I found the way easily with a map. The area around Mynydd Maen was also a bit confusing, but with good visibility and a map I soon found the well-used paths overlooking Cwmbran.
