Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Jan 2024This route has access and accuracy issues and it isn't actually possible to follow it. It crosses the M4 on a footbridge / underpass that doesn't exist leaving a vestigial stump on the northern bank of the cutting.
I planned to nip in before anyone tested the route to add a variation to fix that one issue. But, when checking the usage on Strava heat maps (a good proxy for footpath usage rates) it's striking that one part of this route is extremely faint, the long N-S stretch running east of Brick Kiln Wood. It's a bad sign, what is keeping people away and how long ago was that very faint line made. So now there's a new route, based on the stronger lines on the heatmaps, should be more reliable. It also has more pubs, a country park with public toilets, access to many bus stops and comes into Newbury along the Kennet and Avon Canal.
