Description
This is a brilliant way to walk between Newbridge and Abertillery.
It's mostly off road on the National Cycle Network. It makes use of a dismantled railway and also an unused road.
I made the route in response to Newbabe One, which sounds more challenging!

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Nov 2023November 2023. Direction: Newbridge to Abertillery.
This is a really good Slow Way, very direct and away from main roads, and certainly much easier to navigate and walk than Newbabe1. You can split this walk into 4 sections really (1) North Road between Newbridge and Crumlin - a typical valleys walk urban walk, (2) The closed road between Crumlin and Llanhilleth, (3) The cycle track between Llanhilleth and Aberbeeg and (4) the former railway line path between Aberbeeg and Abertillery. Most of the route is along the 465 Cycle Route. The closed road between Crumlin and Llanhilleth was a nice surprise, despite my familiarity with the area. It looks like the cycle path used to go this way, but has now been re-routed higher up the hillside. It is still cycleable, but it does narrow down quite a bit and is getting a little overgrown in one short stretch. Granny`s Wood in Llanhilleth was a particularly nice section.

02 Jun 2022I read Paul and Tim's reviews of Newbabe One and decided to try this way instead. I'm pleased I did. This is a great route that's mostly away from the road, easy to follow and surrounded by trees. Walking on the path along the B4471 was fun below Llanhilleth, with the road at tree canopy height.
