Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A short but steep climb through woods up to the common. Then lovely views as you walk towards Minchinhampton. Easy to navigate no problems.

Easy to find the route as a non-local, very steep in places. Our only comment would be that we found it a nicer route to walk the edge of the common in Minchinhampton instead of turning into Common Road, you come out by the side of the church a couple of minutes walk from the square.

A very pleasant, and relatively short, walk between Minchinhampton on top of the hill and Nailsworth in the valley below. The route shows you walking along Common Road through Hampton Green which is fine. It's a small enough road. However, where it meets the common, you can just walk across the common to the Halfway Café, and beyond here, you can continue on the common rather than walking on the road. Just keep a look out for the archway in the wall on your left as this is your footpath down the hill. It's quite steep down under the archway before it levels out briefly (tarmac road section) and continues sharply downhill again through the woods. You emerge onto a narrow lane where you turn left and then lookout for the timber gate on your right which takes you down to the Old Railway Hotel and Egypt Mill and also the A46, a very busy road. Turn left on the A46 for a short distance, then cross it using the island. Turn up the hill briefly before crossing using the island to your left. You then walk along the High Street for a short section where the route ends at the bus station. Also, some public toilets here. There are several places where you can find refreshment in Nailsworth.
This was a pleasant walk and I would recommend it as a way between Minchinhampton and Nailsworth.
