Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 Aug 2023Walked from Cumbrae Slip to Millport.
A straight forward route, farm track for the northern part, paved roadway for the rest. Following the route as plotted routes through Portrye farm from the Cumbrae Slip, but the track to farmhouse is signed as 'residents only'. There is a signed footpath, part of the local network of walking routes that shortcuts the farm, but is across cattle fields, with stile access. Not wanting to disturb a herd of large bulls, I continued via the farm yard with no issues. The rest of the trail continues south with only 1 short section likely to be boggy, and finally a stile to cross to get onto Ferry Road.
At this point Ferry Road has no pavement, the pavement starts at the junction with the un-named circular road. For much of the way the pavement is in good condition, and should be wide enough for wheelchair use, though it does switch sides. There are also benches at frequent intervals toward Millport.
Once into Millport the route continues for about a kilometre towards the shore, then along the main sea front to the middle of the promenade.
