Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

31 May 2024I walked this route over the course of 2 days in May, using buses to and from Gateside. It is a good route, accurately mapped, but would not be suitable for wheelers due to a stile east of Strathmiglo, and overgrown and sometimes rough paths in places. It uses core paths and quiet roads, and follows a very indirect route east then south of Auchterarder. It passes a shop in Strathmiglo, but there are no shops or refreshments in Gateside. Buses run relatively frequently between Milnathort and Auchtermuchty, via Gateside and Strathmiglo.
From Auchterarder it uses field tracks, and is waymarked around Plains Farm. It follows the most direct route through the hamlet of Dunshalt, using a footway beside the B936, then uses a rather overgrown path, with a stile, to Strathmiglo. West of Strathmiglo a long stretch of very quiet road - Cycle Route 1 - (may be busy at weekends) leads almost to Glenlomond. Then there are farm tracks and quiet roads, and well maintained footpaths through a strip of woodland just east of Burleigh Castle. The route goes through the castle itself then on into Milnathort on a footway.
Overall a very good route, but rather circuitous at the Auchterarder end. An alternative and much faster, but less pleasant, route would be to take the Glebe Park road/path from the eastern end of Strathmiglo High Street, then the footway beside the busy A91. This would avoid the stile and overgrown path to Reedleys Farm east of Strathmiglo.
