Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Mockymock

15 Mar 2024 (edited 17 Mar 2024) Winter

Short, urban, roadside walk through this changing industrial area passing the (annoyingly invisible) docks and East Fife’s football stadium, to cross the River Leven and gain the coast. A bit of a scrappy walk (rather like my random photos) but it does the job. Leven, which is a gateway to far more rural slow ways along the Fife coastal path to the north, is very well connected. In addition to the already good bus links, a reactivated branch line will soon to join it to the mainline railway network. They were testing trains on it as we passed.

Review of Slow Ways route Metlev one (Methil to Leven)
I walked this short route on a bright morning in October 2023. It is a straightforward route along pavements beside roads. I walked it in reverse (i.e. from Leven to Methil). The walk out of Leven might have been complicated slightly by bridge-strengthening work currently going on, but the route as mapped is perfectly passable with only a few extra road crossings and temporary road surfaces to negotiate. Once past this section, the walking is very easy, the only question being “Where does Leven end and Methil begin?” (as the two seem to be contiguous). There are some interesting buildings to look at along the way and many of the houses wear their orange, pan-tiled rooves (so characteristic of this part of Fife) in a practical and unaffected way. Very shortly, the centre of Methil is reached (opposite Wellesley Parish Church) and the route is complete.
