Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

12 Feb 2024Walked this in reverse from Melbourne to Coalville on 12 Feb 24, which might have been a mistake as extremely muddy in parts following heavy rain the week before! Very easy to follow route, but so very many, many stiles, one broken one at OS Grid Ref: SK 3893 2279 on Melbourne FP 24 near Scotland Farm, which I struggled with as the step was missing and lying on the ground at the other side, (I have reported it). A scenic walk very much over fields and through some woodland, some small distances on roads until the walk into Coalville but that is on good pavements with pedestrian crossings so not in any way dangerous.

25 Mar 2024Yes a most enjoyable walk but I must disagree that it's easy to follow using the plotted route. North of Swannington it fails to follow either recorded paths or roads. I would therefore suggest a look at Melcoa-2 which offers accurate guidance. Frances may have followed a different route getting closer to the windmill for that better picture.

09 May 2024Ken is right - some of the plotting on this route is atrocious, especially that long straight line N of Swannington. Some mapping apps automatically adjust GPX files to fit footpaths, but the OS app doesn't, and had I reviewed this route I would undoubtedly have failed it.
