31 Oct 2023This route is , in the main, walkable. There is one part in Sutton that is probably not public. See Marknew two to resolve this and for a better way into Newport. The first 8.5 miles give very easy navigation , but 8 miles along a tow path, that can be very muddy in places, may not be everyone's ideal. Some of the field paths had clearly been walked and so were easy to follow, most were waymarked. In late autumn the crops were down which helped. A certain degree of agility is required to climb awkward stiles and make the connection between the end of a footpath bridge and the ground. On the plus side there are some beautiful buildings, including a very interesting church in Forton. There is an impressive 360 degree view, near Warton Grange. The canal is not without interest, the locks are very attractive.
