I walked Woodhouse to Mansfield. As reviewed by Hugh the route to or from Mansfield Woodhouse station emphasises the need for a change here. Not worth a new route until the meeting point is moved. I recommend that it's moved to the town centre.

The first road is fairly quiet with cars parked on both sides which cause an issue when traffic meets a bus or worse bus meets bus. Shops and an inn at the railway bridge about half way, safe road crossing and in this direction no issues locating the stepped approach to the bus station.

Walked from Mansfield to Mansfield Woodhouse. Full marks for directness but mostly rather a dull pavement plod. There are steps on the path down from Mansfield bus station to Stockwell Gate, which is just south of Quaker Way, which crosses Stockwell Gate on a bridge. The meeting point at Mansfield Woodhouse is in the car park on the west side of the station. It can be reached from this route using ramps, but the only access to the station from the east side of the railway is from the north end, beyond the bay platform, so the straight line across the railway on the GPX is a little misleading.

Leaving the meeting point at Mansfield bus station, the route may not be obvious, since the GPX file rather optimistically shows a straight line from the start to the bridge over Stockwell Gate on Quaker Way. There is no way down here - the correct line uses steps on the south side of Quaker Way. I don''t know Mansfield centre well but it appears from the map that these steps could be avoided by walking down Quaker Lane. We turn right down Stockwell Lane and cross the market square to Leeming Lane. Where the pedestrian area gives way to a road it is best to stay on the left hand side, then cross St Peters Way using the pelican crossings on the left and go straight on up Woodhouse Road. Beyond the railway we go left along Yorke Street, which becomes Sherwood Street. At the end of the road we cross Debdale Lane and turn left, then right just before the railway, up a lane which gives way to a surfaced path. You will find that there is no route across the railway where the GPX turns left - it is necessary to go north beyond the station and double back along the platform, then use steps or a longer ramp to reach the bridge that leads out to the meeting point in the car park.

A straightforward urban route of just 1.7 miles, along the pavements beside roads. The A60 (Woodhouse Road) is busier but not oppressively so. Shops and pubs along the way, for those who need them. No steps and good road crossings are provided.
