Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Mar 2024I can’t believe how badly this has been plotted. Did some sort of error happen somehow? Don’t even attempt to follow it!.

20 Jun 2023First section of this route (through Manchester city centre and then the Medlock valley) is not well plotted and a better alternative is to simply use the Ashton canal tow path - see alternative route Mandro Two.

04 Jun 2022Ashton Canal has a pleasant tow path for easy walking, till Droylsden, but the walk can be easily continued till Ashton-under-Lyne (15 km altogether). For the first part, between Piccadilly station and the Sportcentre, the Slow Ways map suggests to follow the River Medlock, but this route is hard to find, interrupted and unpleasant. I followed the Ashton Canal from NW of Piccadilly Station and that worked well and deserves more stars.

05 Jun 2023I've added an alternative route which joins the canal at Ducie Street, close to Piccadilly station.
