Description
Minor modifications to Lorsou One taking on board the issues reported in previous reviews and confirmed by my own observation.
1. to correct the route at the southern end of Rollesbrook Greenway
2. to provide an alternative to the locked gate at Vinery Gardens.
One alternative to Vinery Gardens is an unofficial cut through from Briarswood to Lordsdale Greenway, which has the advantage that it can join up with the main route through St James Park. However, it is not a right of way so I have taken the Slow Ways route round into Dale Road to the start of Lordsdale Greenway

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

13 Aug 2024Not the most direct route between Lordshill and Southampton Station, but if you want to avoid walking almost entirely on Southampton streets it's not a bad balance.
I might even be tempted to add a little more distance and detour through Southampton Common rather than taking the more direct St James Rd route. My wife and I lived in Southampton for a number of years and the route talk us to bits we weren't aware of.

12 Aug 2024There was a fair bit of road walking through town, but this broken up by smaller parks and other green spaces. Nice and quiet and easy to navigate.

04 Aug 2024It was really nice to walk through some of the green spaces in town. A nice route, lots of road walking, but roads were reasonably quiet and it is a route through town.

29 Mar 2024Nice mix of urban walking on sidewalks and natural trails. The brookside trail in the back of the Polygon School is lovely, but that also means if it's been raining, there will be mud! Plan your visit accordingly. :-) Same goes for the Lordsdale Greenway. Having the walk end at Sainsbury's is quite nice as it's easy to grab some refreshment before heading back on Lorsou three. I was very unfamiliar with the area and visiting from out of town, but the directions were very clear, and it was an easy walk from my accommodations in the City Centre. Note: When muddy, the trail parts of this walk are only safe for the very able-bodied. However, I do imagine that when they are dry, the trails could be safely navigated by more individuals (but there may not be sufficient access for those using motorized devices).

12 Mar 2023I walked this route from Southampton to Lordshill following route Lorsou One but with the modifications noted by previous reviewers. It's a pleasant route that generally avoids main roads and follows two urban greenways and a park.
I took a short cut from the north west corner of St James Park into Briarswood and down a short but steep unofficial path through to Lordsdale Greenway. I don't think this is a right of way, however.
Lorsou Four is not a direct route (hence four stars rather than five) but makes up for it by being an attractive route maximising the use of green spaces, and I would happily walk it again in either direction.
There are refreshment options at Hello Coffee and Communibakes in St James Road, at the St James Park Cafe and at Starbucks in Lordshill shopping precinct.
