14 Jun 2026I walked from Longbridge to Wythall on a Saturday morning in June.
The initial 20% along the road in Longbridge could be walked along the adjacent road for most of the way, particularly around the corner and parallel to the A441. The plot goes along the main road though. The A441 was a bit tricky to cross, but manageable.
The entrance to the field footpath from there had some recently installed, intimidating-looking fencing and signs put up and looked inaccessible, but the kissing gate wasn’t actually locked. The other end of the field had similar fencing and kissing gate, but that was the wrong way anyway.
The footpath alongside the playing fields was enclosed, a bit muddy in places, and moderately overgrown with brambles and nettles. It was obviously trodden and manageable, but I’d recommend long trousers and secateurs in the summer!
After crossing the lane, the route joined the North Worcestershire Path and was noticeably better.
I thought there was room for improvement of the signposting, there were only tiny circles on stiles etc, any fingerposts seemed to have disappeared.
At the top of Wast Hill there was a cracking view of Birmingham across the fields. Shortly after that was one of several places where only close attention to the plot kept me on the route, where I needed to branch off the obvious grassy lane onto a small footpath, but there was no sign.
After the Peacock pub and the Forhill Picnic Place, the diagonal field footpath was obliterated by mown hay. The path around Blackgreves Farm was also difficult to spot amongst the overgrowth and electric fencing. Then it was tricky to spot the path through the middle of a horse field at Malthouse Farm. It wasn’t quite as marked on OS and the women working with the horses told me to be careful of the mare and foal as the ran about very fast. They were right! They also warned that there would soon be four more mares and foals in there.
It was one of those occasions where I was glad to reach a bit of road! The path from Houndsfield Lane across to the housing near Wythall Station was a pleasant wooded path, well used by locals for dog walks. This place was not heaving with facilities, but I’d brought a packed lunch and the shelter on the station was a nice place to eat it.
I’d like to have given the route three and a half stars for a June walk, as there were quite a few drawbacks at this time, but also some nice sections.

26 Sep 2025A very enjoyable walk which follows partly the North Worcester Path and is easy to follow. A little road walking to start so not a 5 star, but then goes into nice countryside paths. Shops at both ends and a pub in the middle, with transport links both ends.

16 Sep 2024I completed this walk yesterday walking west from Wythall. I enjoyed walking the route, and i'd consider giving this five stars if it wasn't for the deft crossing required of the A441 and walking alongside the busy Longbridge Lane in Longbridge, so alas just four stars from me.
A few of points of interest en route, you walk past the remains of a 13th century moat at Blackgreves Farm, and the views south across Worcestershire from atop Wast Hill and north towards Birmingham from atop High Hill are pretty impressive.
Happily no real issues with overgrown sections, and along with footbridges, stiles and steps there were a lot of gates to negotiate. I'd definitely recommend the walk and would be happy to do it again.

13 Oct 2023Varied, safe, direct and enjoyable walk which mainly follows the North Worcestershire Path. Mostly easy to follow and pretty well signposted. Some of the stiles and gates have seen better days and the steps and stiles make it less than totally accessible. There is a pub at the halfway point as well as a picnic area nearby. Trains at both ends and buses too. There are buses from Hollywood too, although this is quite near the Wythall end of the walk. Some livestock encountered but not in any problematic fashion.
