Description

An off road route from Lochgelly to Kirkcaldy going through woodland and farmland. Highlights include the late 18th century designed “picturesque landscape” of Raith Park, wild wooded ravines of the Den Burn, stock car racing near Lochgelly, ruined hilltop towers and possibly grazing buffalo. Both ends have short sections on good pavements beside busier roads (about 1 mile total) but otherwise the route is (over 90%) off road, along paths, tracks and quiet access-only farm roads. It mostly uses the Fife “core paths” but ventures onto other well used tracks near the Bankhead of Raith cottages, as the road towards Torbain Farm looks uncomfortable to walk along despite being designated a core path.

There are no places to stop and eat or buy food between Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy as the restaurant/cafe in Auchtertool closed around 2017.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
  2. Submit a survey for this route.
