The route is along the river bank. It is a pleasure to walk and straightforward to follow, no need to worry about which way to go so your time can be spent admiring the scenery and dreaming.

We walked from Littleport to Downham Market on 6 September 2021. The weather reached a rather unseasonable 30 degrees, and we were therefore very aware of the lack of shade on this walk. The first part of the walk is on the river bank next to the very busy and noisy A10, which was not particularly enjoyable. After the river bends away from the road at the Denver Cruising Club the walk is quieter and more pleasant, though the minor road between Ten Mile Bank and Denver Sluice was busier than we expected.
Around 1 Km south of Denver Sluice we had an unfortunate incident where three small dogs suddenly came out of the yard barking furiously and starting running around our ankles. Although we were walking on the far side of the road from their property and tried to ignore them, one dog bit my wife on her leg. We would obviously have reported this to the owner, but there was nobody in the vicinity to be seen. After this we would certainly have appreciated a drink at the Jenyns Arms pub at Denver Sluice, but sadly this now appears to be permanently closed.

Route follows the Fen Rivers Way. Much of the route is close to or on roads. Leaving
Littleport the route follows alongside the A10, a rough path on the bank is safe, but noisy. Later sections also follow minor roads. This route is the obvious and direct route between these places but not one I would choose to walk again. (The DOWKIN route north to Kings Lynn along the Fen Rivers Way is much better.).
