20 Aug 2022 (edited 05 Jan 2023)A nice, quiet route across The Levels. I walked from Somerton and the route begins with a long section of lane walking, but the lanes are quiet so perfectly fine. Once off the lanes, the route passes through woodland and farmland, and some of the paths were a bit overgrown, but are obviously used so were easily passable. The worst section was Lowerfield Lane, where the vegetation was tall enough for me to lose sight of my dog for most of it. Fortunately, there are few things to scratch or sting you, so again, not a problem.
In various places the views open up and stretch across to the Mendips. You can look at the hills and congratulate yourself on choosing an easy flat walk.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Somerton and Langport, but there is nothing in between. There could be livestock in the fields, and there were crops across the path in one field, but an easy and short detour round the field edge sorted that issue.
Update Jan 2023 - Somerset County Council have added Lowerfield Lane to the veg clearance schedule, so hopefully it will be easier for future walks.
