Description

This route uses the Heart of Wales trail for the most part (apart from coming out of Kington to Holloway Rocks and Stow Hill). Experience has shown sticking to the Heart of Wales trail is a good thing as it is well maintained and signposted. This is a great route with plenty of hills to get on top of with great views of the beautiful rolling country around. There are some lovely hamlets on the way such as Aston on Clun, Clunbury (buzzing with kites when I visited and guarded by a grumpy looking but friendly English Bulldog in the middle of the street) and Hopton Castle. There are also good views towards Craven Arms and the Shropshire Hills

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Great route if you're feeling energetic as there are some steep hills. Fantastic views from the tops - especially at Hopesay Common and Holloway Rocks. I used the Heart Of Wales railway to get from Knighton to Craven Arms and then walked back. Just a warning the railway line, although picturesque does have its fair share of delays and cancellations ! I was lucky this time. The path is mostly across grass so easy on the feet with a little bit of lane walking with barely any traffic.
