Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

10 Feb 2023Walked from Kirknewton to West Linton. This is a great way to get to the Thieves Road by public transport, and it feels remote when crossing the Pentlands.
Kirknewton to Little Vantage (on the Lang Whang) is along a backroad and then off over the hill on a path through fields. From Little Vantage up to Cauldstane Slap is always boggy and wet, I've never been across here without at least one foot getting a soaking.
Once over the top the path becomes firmer and easier to follow, and then a good farm track. Depending on the weather there are great views forward and backwards.
Continuing left at Baddinsgill farm the path is again easy to follow all the way to West Linton.
Generally this is wet and muddy walking. Cycling is possible, but there will be pushing for much of Little Vantage to Cauldstane Slap.
