Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Apr 2024Leave Kirkholm on the A718
At the former RAF Wig Bay there is a picnic area with an information board on the operations at the RAF base. Sunderland Flying Boats and PBY Catalinas operated from the calm waters of Loch Ryan to protect the wartime Atlantic Convoys from U-boat attack.
Continue on A718 via Stranrar Golf course to Stranrar.

Leaving Kirkholm on the main road south, you track along the A718 past the former RAF base at Wig Bay. (If cycling there is a bright red inflation station on the picnic area at the entrance to the base). There are still many of the concrete dispersal positions for the seaplanes that operated from Loch Ryan. The route continues along the road until you cross Sole Burn and head to the beach. Follow the coast path or beach, along by Stranrar Golf Course. Soon after the Golf course you come to Broadstone Road and onto the centre of Stranrar.
