Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Oct 2024On paper a good route, using the former towpath along the disused Chesterfield for much of its length. However the route as shown - although correctly on rights of way as shown on the map - does have physical access issues. Basically the towpath is in bad repair in places and also has overgrowth forcing you rtoward a steep fall towards the drop into the former canal. There is also a fallen tree, as shown in the photo. These issues are on the section between the A618 Rotherham Road and the end of Bailey Drive to the west. These problems are easily solved as there is a parallel path to the north just a few metres away which leads from the A618 and leads on to Bailey Drive around the small industrial site. I would not recommend using the canal here, although it is a right of way it is quite dangerous. Another area with a problem- shown on the gpx line but, not passable is the section from the Boatman to the County Boundary near to the Rotherham Road. There is no path here. The path is along the towpath. I will be making these changes and posting them on an alternative. which will be Kilkiv(three).
