Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Dec 2023A lovely canal-side route from Kidsgrove to Congleton. Walked in two sections in December- one of which was just after a spell of heavy rain, so some of the unpaved sections of canal path were unavoidably greasy/muddy.
In view of this we took a different route into Congleton to avoid the route across the golf course and fields. Avoiding the turning away from the canal shown on the gpx route we continued a little further to where the canal crosses the minor road from Mossley to Congleton Cebtre, and turned down here instead. It added no more than a few hundred metres but in Winter or wet weather is a good alternative imho.
I would walk it again though - it’s a pretty route.

08 Nov 2023Lovely walk almost all on quiet canal towpaths (not always paved). Some unexpectedly nice countryside, peaceful views and a load of kingfishers! It was so good I wrote about it – and Slow Ways – for The Guardian ( https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/03/slow-ways-app-map-140000-miles-footpaths-walking-pedestrian-friendly-england-wales ).

26 Oct 2023This is a brilliant route by David. We even saw two kingfisher's within a few minutes of walking down the canal!
The route is mostly on the canal and is easy to follow.
Photos and some more words to come later.

05 Feb 2023Safe, direct and very easy to follow. Relaxing and offroad. Little in the way of shops, but there are canalside benches and a pub around halfway. The towpath gets boggy so I'd recommend wearing boots. There are steps at Kidsgrove Station and from the Trent and Mersey to the Macclesfield Canal.
