Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Feb 2022I walked this route 'downhill' from Springwell to Kibblesworth. The bulk of this route follows the Bowes Railway Path.
Leaving Springwell I was soon out in the countryside and negotiating the many footpaths in and around Springwell and Eighton Banks.
The path soon leads downhill and around Dunkirk Farm. It might be worth investigating an alternative route here as there were a couple of stiles and an indeterminate path across the pasture.
Once on the Bowes Railway Path 'proper' the path was a straight incline with variable surfaces along the track. This is a designated cycle route so expect bikes and horses.
I passed farmland, pastures, busy roads and the main railway line. There are always houses and industry in the background but the path itself is bordered by hedges and trees. The path crosses the River Team and then goes though an area of Reed Beds set up to clean the waste water from the coal mines.
Branching off along a muddy footpath I arrived in Kibblesworth. This was a very pleasant walk!.
