Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 Jan 2025I really enjoyed the views of the Angel of the North. I also followed the parrallel woodland paths because the section on the road felt quite dangerous. FYI there were quite a few access controls so it's not a very accessible route.

09 Jun 2024A very pleasant and surprisingly rural route for the northern half. There is quite a long bit of road out of Chester le Street and a soulless industrial estate. But then you are in fields with cows then a woodland path.
The last part north is on a road with no pavement but there is a convenient path running parallel to the east which is notable for many clumps of electric cables growing in the bushes...
And finally a view of the Angel of the North.
Highly recommended.

28 May 2022This is a great walk. Hardly any ups and downs and through a pleasant mix of woodland and pasture with a bit of town and an industrial estate. The route as given includes a section of road walking which I would consider as dangerous but there is some adjacent woodland paths which I used.
