Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 May 2022Agree with the previous reviews that this is an enjoyable, largely traffic-free route, that is well sign-posted as part of the Borders Abbeys Way. A variety of path surfaces, including some stiles are part of the route. A very nice walk.

09 Feb 2022I only walked part of this route from Roxburgh to Mounthooly on the A698. As it had rained the night before, we followed the old railway line from Roxburgh rather than the Teviot. The four star rating is for a sunny day. On a wet day it would not be so pleasant. The going on the old railway line is generally good. The walk beside the Teviot near Nisbet bridge is very pleasant. The best place to eat in the area is unfortunately not on the route. The Birdhouse Tearoom at the Woodhouse Garden Centre is about 2 km away just off the B6400 but its cakes are worth the detour.

19 Aug 2021This is a great, largely traffic free, route (only quiet, minor roads used occasionally). It also has the benefit of following the Borders Abbey Way from Kelso into Jedburgh, and is therefore signposted.
Note of caution: There are stretches alongside the River Teviot, which could be either muddy, or impassable after heavy rain.
