Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Apr 2024I agree with the earlier comments! It's an easy to follow route the trail (just look for the blue posts) with some great views and beautiful woodland. It's very steep north of Invermoriston with lots of elevation over the route, but well worth it!
Ancarraig Lodges north of Balbeg have snacks and coffee.

12 Apr 2023A steep path out of Invermorriston, then mostly forestry tracks until the last 4 miles which broadly follow a road into Drumnadrochit. The path is well way marked as part of the Great Glen Way (lower route) and easy to follow, but the end section on the road is not very pleasant under foot.

30 May 2022May 2022. An excellent walk through varied forestry and lanes, with occasional views over Loch Ness, following the Great Glen Way (lower route).
A steep climb up the lane from Invermoriston leads into a mixture of woodland and forestry, with some good views out to Loch Ness and across the Moriston valley (Photo 1). The path follows some forestry tracks, but it`s not the usual monoculture, there are several types of conifers in the plantations and a variety of broadleaved trees edging the plantations along the way, creating some variety. The Cafe in the Pottery at Grotaig provides a nice break along the way (a couple of hundred metres off the track).
From Grotaig, the path follows the lane to Drumnadrochit. This is a long straight lane with good views across the fields and moors (Photo 2). In May, the road is flanked by gorse and broom, with the sweet smell of coconut from the gorse along the way. Eventually, the path takes a detour from the lane and descends through more forestry and fields (Photo 3) into Lewiston and a nice steady walk along a lane into the main part of Lewiston and Drumnadrochit.
Definitely not a wheelchair route, but there were some mountain bikers out on the path.
