Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

04 Jan 2024It's difficult creating a route in the developed parts of Greater Manchester - obviously there IS a direct road between the two places, but that's not very Slow Ways. As this one stands, it's still got quite a lot of suburban pavement, but Cheetham Park and Hyde Park make very nice diversions and the section past Hough Hill has quite broad views (or it did in January, I think if the trees are in leaf you'd just see the trees).
I walked in reverse, and was unable to find the part of the route by Hough Hill that's showed as a red dotted line. It seemed that if it did exist it would have to cross a solid fenceline, so I gave up and stayed on the dirt track (brown dashed line) passing the industrial park on the east side rather than the west.
It's been very wet lately so I encountered a lot of mud, as well as two fallen trees in the woods just south of Cheetham Park, and the dirt track was actually flooded at one point (but not so deep as to overtop your boots). But I view these as the usual hazards of walking in January.
Surfaces: tarmac pavement, pathways through city parks, muddy slope through woods, dirt track reinforced with stones of varied sizes
Suitability for wheels: not the middle bit of the route. Only the suburban bits and the parks.
