Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Aug 2024I can't write a proper review about this route, I'm afraid. The beginning of the route at the Tarbet end is currently inaccessible. There is a long-term upgrade of Sloy - Windyhill 132kV overhead line on this area and the Three lochs way that is partially shared with Heltar one has been closed and diverted for the duration of the works (probably till 2026).
I walked the route using a suggested detour (see photo one). The detour turns back up at Arrochar close to a church (see photo two). The spot where the detour joins the Heltar route again is on photo three. The rest of the route to Helensburgh is good enough but I'd recommend walking it in a drier weather. The ground in the second 5km from Tarbet can be sodden.

18 Dec 2021This slow way comprises around half of the Three Lochs Way running between Inveruglas and Balloch, and there is more information about this route available online.
Northern section is very enjoyable with amazing views over Loch Long. Approx 1/3rd of the way through the route (going North to South) involves fording a small stream beneath a railway - a previous bridge has been taken down. The second third of the route is on a tarmac road right-of-way through an MOD training area; this is far less enjoyable walking but still has excellent views. The route then descends along a combination of quiet singletrack road and new footpath through woodlands into Helensburgh, passing the famous Rennie Mackintosh Hill House.
