Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

09 Dec 2022NOTE: ADD PHOTO LAYER ON MAP TO SEE LOCATIONS ALONG THE ROUTE>>>
While the southern route from Dronfield to Hathersage is excellent, two issues mean that I cannot recommend Hatdro One. I have created Hatdro Three and my primary review is on that route page.
1. The broken stile (SK 29295 79805)
I walked past the first of the air shafts for Totley Tunnel and found myself at a broken stile. It had no step; the uprights were wobbly, and it was unable to support my weight; it is not safe enough to be included in a Slow Ways walk
2. The Confused path up to Mother Cap (SK 25271 80109)
It was crossing the A6187 again that I came across confused paths. The .gpx path is not accurate enough to provide a clear path up to Mother Cap and my initial view of what I thought was the path was that it was not a great path for Slow Ways and the actual path (I think) was rarely used and not clear.
Although the Mother Cap path is an inconvenience, it was the stile that stopped this route from being recommended. It is dangerous to go over and can be easily avoided by using a small, quiet road.
(Note: the stile is on the border between Sheffield and Derbyshire councils and the ownership and maintenance appears to be disputed, I was unable to find out where I could report it.).

02 May 2021This is a decent route, albeit one on which I drifted off course and got lost. This was a result of the generally well marked Sheffield Country walk suddenly being unsigned above Totley where there are numerous moorland paths. Had I been more attentive to my map I'd have been fine. I'd use this again but with a little more care!.

22 Dec 2022The issue with the stile is because, as you correctly state, this is the boundary between Sheffield and Derbyshire and there is no recorded footpath in Derbyshire so I guess it's a Sheffield problem because their Country Walk uses this way.
