Description

This is a walkable and pleasant route, but I uploaded it before testing and found a problem. HarNor 3 fixes that and so it is slightly more direct and a lot easier to navigate.

This version uses some footpaths in the Ebbsfleet Valley which have over the years been diverted as quarries and train lines have appeared. They are now so twisted that it's very disorientating and very indirect.

The long rewilded spoil pits, embankments and flooded quarries are rather charming. Perhaps you could try it if you have time to spare and are willing to risk getting a bit lost.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This is a nice route but after reviewing it and checking some alternatives I decided that HarNor Three would be a better Slow Way becauseit is more direct and easier to navigate. This review is only for the two sections which are on this but not HarNor 3.

I started in Northfleet and walked to "Hartley" which is actually Longfield station. The footpaths north of Thames Way and south of the railway lines were pretty but the entrance isn't that easy to find and the curves and twists were more disorientating than I expected. And it's indirect compared to the alternative along Thames Way. That is a fairly short roadside walk and had much less traffic than the road's size would suggest. Perhaps because Eurostar services don't stop at Ebbsfleet International anymore. If you have a little more time there's no reason not to go this way, is more peaceful (passing trains excepted) and adds some landscape variety. Personally I enjoyed the unexpected flora. The photos are all from this section.

In Longfield this route also goes through some bland alleyways which I dropped for HarNor 3. Via the short High Street is less trouble to navigate so I don't think the alleys actually save time.
