Once out of Witham, this walk is on quiet single lane country lanes all the way to Fairstead. The church here has some interesting but sadly very faded painted walls of biblical scenes (there is a very good guide book with illustrations of how it may have looked). From Fairstead it is a concrete farmers track to Ranks Green then a grass verge around farm fields, becoming a dirt bridleway to Dagnets Farm. Before turning into Great Notley, a small way south on London Road is the very good Green Dragon pub & restaurant. In Great Notley the route follows the peaceful cycle path. There are no facilities or shops to stop at between the start and end.
