Description
From Glyn Neath, once you reach Pontneddfechan, this becomes an absolutely stunning river and waterfall walk. There are so many fantastic places to stop and enjoy the views and water - which is crystal clear. The route winds up the River Nedd through beautiful woods. The path starts off fairly flat but towards the end (as fewer have people have ventured that far) the path becomes steeper and narrower. The river has carved through the rock making some very impressive twists and turns and magnificent waterfalls. Make a slight diversion to get to SN 8967 0929 for Sgwd Gwladus waterfall which has fantastic architecture and if you're feeling brave a great pool for swimming. Pont Rhyd-y-cnau has the most challenging climb out of the valley and is quite a rocky path but soon opens up to view across to Pen-y-Fan and the toward Ystradfellte. I cannot recommend this walk highly enough!!

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Welcome to Waterfall Country !
An excellent walk, although hard going in a couple of places. A nice start up through the lane and then the footpath through the woods to Cwm Porth. The route then follows a bridleway up over the hill through a lovely stretch of green lane. After crossing the road at the top of the ridge, the path then goes through open boggy fields and down the steep slope through the woods to the Neath / Nedd river. The going gets quite tough in places here as there are some very steep up and down sections as you cross the gulleys and streams. There were also lots of trees down crossing the path, which needed some care to get around / over / through. From Pont Melyn Fach the path becomes a lot easier, still rocky and rooty, but it is now in the heart of Waterfall Country and a well trodden route. There is a whole series of waterfalls on the way down to Pontneddfechan. It`s definitely worth the short 5-minute detour to the Gwladys waterfall, which can be quite spectacular after a wet spell.

21 Aug 2022Absolutely 5 stars if you love waterfalls and woods. One of the best routes into the heart of the Brecon Beacons.
