Description

Route using the England Coast Path from Filey to Bempton Cliffs then small lanes and footpaths into Bridlington. The review on FilBri One pointed out that it uses a busy fast section of A-road where there is no pavement. Added this so there is at least one route available for others to test, but if I do make it there myself I'd take a longer version, staying on the cliff path all the way around past Flamborough Head so I could enjoy the seabird colonies at Bempton and Flamborough. It'd be about 1/3 longer though so perhaps not such a good fit to the Slow Ways ethos. There are also boat trips out of Bridlington which are probably amazing too.

The England Coast Path here only officially opened recently (May 2023) and some of the paths used have been newly created, mostly between Speeton and Humanby Sands. I had to copy them by eye from the ECP website when they didn't match up with paths on other maps. If the route line doesn't seem quite right please just follow the ECP signs.

There are cafes at Humanby Gap and Bempton Cliffs, at roughly 1/3 and 2/3 along the route. Possibly elsewhere too and maybe small shops in holiday parks. The 13 bus between Bridlington and Scarborough is often fairly close to the route, it's moreorless hourly and runs until 9 or 10 pm. There's also Bempton station (Hull to Scarborough line through Filey and Bridlington) and Humanby station too, which is about 3.5km from the route.

In some places you could walk along the beach instead of this route, but only very close to high tide, and you might also be slowed by the underfoot conditions so I'm not recommending it

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
