Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Jul 2022This was a nice fairly straightforward route.
If the route was to be made prettier then there could be adaptations in the early stages route so that you are taken along the river, but this would be impractical in the autumn/winter months as it can become very boggy at that time.

02 Aug 2021Went from Faversham town centre to Canterbury East station. Ended up being about 13.5 miles. Enjoyable walk with a good mix of scenery - woodland, farmland, golf course etc.
Could not find the footpath after crossing the railway onto clockhouse lane. The sign is in evidence but could not work out where to go around the estate agents. May have been overgrown as was walking in the summer months.
Would not recommend taking the footpath between Horselees Road and Dunkirk Road in Boughton under Blean as this was very overgrown with stinging nettles. Particularly not good in shorts. Will stick to the road next time.
I am certain there is probably an easier way to pass through Chartham Hatch, the loop to the south seems a little unnecessary to me.
Otherwise a good and mostly very peaceful route.

24 Apr 2021First walk of this route, We started in Canterbury at in Buttermarket, here there are plenty of places to eat/drink, use toilet facilities and you are within easy walking distance of 2 train stations with connections to London, and the bus station. We found the downloaded walk was made up of very straight lines which did not always match the map so had to stop a few times to work out the route. This was most evident upon crossing Rheims Way, the route shows you crossing the dual carriage way in a diagonal line, whereas it should she the underpass. After this you soon head off road, we found a nice stopping place with great views at Golden Hill. Then it was all off road from here. Heading into the woods, the paths are suitable for able walkers. Not suitable for wheelchair users or buggy. There was some amazing views. We had to stop around 8 miles into the walk at Boughton under Blean due to our phones running out of power so could not access maps. Would recommend a good portable charger. Bring plenty of snacks/drinks as this was also the first place we found to stop that had a shop and pub. You can also connect here on the number 3 bus which runs from Canterbury to Faversham.
Will review again once we can get out and finish the route.
