29 Oct 2021Looking at this route on the map, I was slightly put off by the apparently high proportion of on-road walking. But it wasn't as I feared: once you take into account that Cassington Road leaving Eynsham is gated, and consequently access only, and that Yarnton Lane isn't suitable for motor vehicles, the balance in favour of quieter walking is restored, with the additional benefit that a significant amount of the route is paved. And I also looked for other options - without longer detours, there aren't any viable ones.
I don't recommend this route for wheels, though: several stiles in the Cassington/Yarnton section, along with field and mud make that a bad idea.
The route benefits from pubs in Cassington and Yarnton, and the Worton Kitchen Garden, a farm, cafe restaurant and shop that is open Wednesday to Sunday (best to check the hours).
At the Kidlington end, you'll see the 'Zoo Trails' - painted footprints, commemorating the fact that Kidlington used to have a zoo. A nice way to introduce children to walking for the fun of it.
