Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Mar 2022This route mainly follows roads and gravel tracks and I had hoped that it's redeeming feature would be that I could declare it wheelchair friendly, however that is not the case.
You leave East Morton along a street lined with terraced cottages and then up a track that leads to a farmhouse. Do not turn left towards the farmhouse, the bridleway turns to grass and rises quite steeply uphill. This is the section that I think is unsuitable for wheelchairs. The ground is rough and the path regularly has channels carved out, caused by water running down.
After the climb, the path turns left and it's a fairly level route until you get to the road. Now the climb begins. Up the road, which, at least, is fairly quiet. You should hear curlew, possibly skylark and may see a red kite at close quarters as I did.
At the top of the road is a car park, go through the gate and carry straight on along the gravel track. Occasionally 4-wheel drive vehicles do travel along here. Head down and into Ilkley, where there is a range of facilities.
This is a route that does what it says on the tin - takes you between East Morton and Ilkley via an easily navigable route (whatever the weather) and is a shade shorter than route 3. If you don't mind the road walking, you still get the moorland experience.
