Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Apr 2024I walked this route has part of a hike along the Great Glen Way. We started in Inverness and finished in Fort William. Loved this leg.

16 Apr 2024This is mostly a great route. We walked it from Inverness towards Drumnadrochit. It's very easy to follow, but as has already been said there is an unpleasant section along the A82 at the Drumnadrochit end, including a small stretch of walking on the verge beside the busy A Road. That's a shame as the rest of the route was such a pleasure.
There are some great views.
*Longer review and some photos to follow.

30 May 2022May 2022. A long, but lovely walk taking in a variety of landscapes along the way, mainly following the Great Glen Way.
The walk out of Drumnadrochit is not pleasant - along the very busy A82 road, but it`s only for a mile and a half, where it turns off and heads up through some fields, where there are some great views over Loch Ness and the Urquhart Castle. The path then enters the forestry plantations, where there are only occasional views of Loch Ness (Photo 2). It`s a long climb up the footpath through the forestry, where it eventually meets a stony track and the incline reduces a little. Eventually it emerges onto the open moor (Photo 3), before finding more forest as it leads into Abriachan.
Leaving the Abriachan forest behind, the path follows the minor Inverness road for a few miles through the open moorland (Photo 4). The path then veers away from the lane and back into the forestry plantations. There is a wide variety of trees here, not just the usual monoculture, including some scots pine forests (Photo 5) and broadleaved trees. The path follows a variety of tracks through these forests (Photo 6), before emerging on the hills above Inverness (Photo 7).
This would have been a 5-star review, but for the final descent into Inverness. The path follows a route which leads through what looks like a new town type area of the city, which could be anywhere in the UK. The roads are also very busy along parts of the route. A better route would be to follow the Great Glen Way all the way into the city along section of the Caledonian Canal, Ness Island and along the River Ness
