23 Mar 202470% of this route is off-road, which is quite an achievement for an urban area. The only difficult bit was just south of the masts from SJ 91451 98385 to SJ 91643 98346 at the south end of Ashton Moss, where the narrow path was muddy and had brambles which could become a problem in summer. However, it was manageable when I walked it.
The Lees Park path at the Droylsden end, and the gravelled Rayner Lane were both fairly pleasant, although there was some fly-tipping on Rayner Lane. I enjoyed the view along Rayner Lane directly out to the hills and the tower on Hartshead Pike.
When I reached the final section of busy roads into Ashton, the suggested way of making the diagonal crossing at Ashton West tram stop, was the less safe way. There are pedestrian lights if you cross via the tram stop and then the south side of the A6140. I’ve included a map to show what I mean.
Other than these points, I found it a reasonable walk. There was access to a tram stop close to the midpoint, and to food outlets just east of the M60 crossing.

20 Jun 2023This route is ok. It is largely off-road and the first section includes some pleasant open-spaces in a residential area. The route then follows a somewhat overgrown footpath behind some houses before some long sections using a quiet un-made road.
Whilst there were no significant problems, I did not particularly enjoy walking this route and suspect a more pleasant alternative is available following the Ashton canal tow path.
