Description
This is an accurately mapped version of Didwal one.
This corrects the poor mapping and takes into account a footbridge closure over Benson Lock Weir (until 2026) and new housing built across the path.
This route includes a ferry that bypasses the closed footbridge. The Benson Ferry costs £2 and runs daily 09:30 - 18:00, but should be checked on-line. A picture shows the official detour route if the ferry is not an option.
Also included is a walk up the Wittenham Clumps, 55%! worth it for the views, but you can choose to walk around if you wish.
A new housing estate has blocked the official OS path by Ladygrove Farm, the new path is shown here.
As the reviewers of Didwal One have said this is a lovely walk

12 Sep 2023I walked from Wallingford to Didcot.
Please see Overview.
This is a varied and pleasant walk through woods, riverside paths, farmland and a cycle path.
It includes a delightful ferry crossing in a 1950's vintage boat, very stable. This costs £2 (card only) and takes less than 10 minutes. It drops you off / picks you up next to a café. The alternative path is included in the pictures below if the ferry is not an option.
There are muddy narrow paths, steps (including onto the boat), stiles and gates so not for wheels.
The Wittenham Clump is a steep hill 55% but worth it for the quite stunning views, there are benches around the top to rest and admire the view.
A new housing estate has altered the path next to Ladygrove Farm.
A cycle path takes you away from the roads virtually all the way to Didcot Station.
As already said by the reviewers of Didwal one this is a lovely walk.
PS my phone's GPS was playing up some of the photo locations are quite random.
