Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 May 2023The walk avoids significant road walking taking a route through fields so a few stiles but mostly gates and potential for cattle. The section close to the motorway can be overgrown but still passable. There was mud especially on the bridleway paths.
I walked from the good meeting place in Desford having dropped off the bus at the adjacent stop. The route fails to pass any useful shops but there are two Co-op stores close by with a minor detour.
The exit path is down hill and fenced so it's a bit muddy and slippery. Once in open fields it's much improved to Botcheston with a level railway crossing over a single line, this should not offer a challenge.
At the village street we part company from Desmar to follow this field route. The path is signed and along a wide grass headland to meet the south north bridleway. From here it gets wet and muddy although there is no sign of damage by equestrian use. The enclosed track is alongside access land so there may be an alternative parallel path which is easier but I didn't explore.
As I approached the motorway the noise increased. Turning to walk parallel to the busy road the signage was confusing but once into the open field it was straightforward to meet the road at Whittington Grange. A short walk on the road to cross the motorway convinced me it was worth the extra distance taking the field route.
Another section of path close to themotorway needs care to avoid brambles then into paddocks and increased local use approaching Markfield. The farmer had not reinstated the cross field path so like the locals I walked around the field edge.
The final stretch is along the village High Street to shops and buses but no seat at the meeting place.
