Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Nov 2022 (edited 16 Nov 2022)The section from Dartford station to Center Park Lake is bad. Beside busy roads, v awkward to follow the route, these roads are designed for traffic. Pedestrians have multiple better options either beside the river or over the footbridge and through the shopping areas. After Central Park it doesn't use the Darenth Valley Path but up a steep, switchback, cambered ramp, then you can either leapfrog 3 lanes of busy traffic or follow DVP sign (which points the wrong way) round 4 sides of a busy junction (again!) then another without a crossing, before actually getting out onto the carriageway of the junction to access a lane then immediately turn into a pathway (hidden by vegetation).
But, Dartford does have some old, pretty buildings and a museum to look at on the way, so find another way through town or the D V Path beside the river (see SwaDar 2, from Swanley).
From Brooklands Lakes to South Darenth was pretty and pleasant. The small (non-pavemented) road section in the village is also on the DVP so presumably hard to avoid.
After S Darenth there is a fairly long section on Rabbit Rd and the first half in particular gave me the heebie jeebies. What is a relatively straight road on the map is a series of close set blind bends due to high hedges and no verges. Traffic was generally respectful and the road not so narrow that I felt it passed too close more than once. Your mileage may vary but I am glad to have heard the cars approaching, and due to light fog I felt nervous enough to get my bike lights out.
Footpath section to Fawkham Rd was pleasant enough but I couldn't see far as the fog increased. Didn't do final footpath section given the route had already failed, in favour of certainty of the road alternative to catch the hourly Sunday train.
Two flights of steps, one kissing gate, one stile, minimum three unavoidable stepped kerbs, medium-ly muddy, tree roots, broken chest height tree to duck under. Not wheelchair friendly. Good for mid-route pubs and shops. I had a huge and hot Sunday roast at the Chequers, booking advisable.
I'dsubmit an alternative route, as it has 4 or 5 star potential, but think testing before uploading is prudent for the S Darenth section.
