Description
This route is safer than Cwmusk1 & Cwmusk2 as it avoids the stretch of main road south of Usk, joining the 1&2 route at Bittia Farm. The off-road sections could be very muddy, especially between Bittia Farm and Croeswen; an alternative is to follow the cycle network lane that runs NE and SW of Coed-y-Paen

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

11 Feb 2023February 2023. Direction: Cwmbran to Usk.
Five stars for the scenery, but only one for navigation. After a couple of weeks of dry weather, there were still some very muddy stretches along the way, especially between Granary Farm and Sor Brook. There were several stages along the way where there is no signage and the styles are in a poor state of repair in some places. I had to hop a couple of gates at Coed-y-Paen farm (one tied with string, the other chained and padlocked). I was surprised by the footpath going right through the paddocks at Cwm Farm near Prescoed. I missed this at first then went back to verify the route. I was also challenged by the farmer at Bittia Farm regarding the path through the farm back to the lane, but he was very courteous about it and I think he just wanted to make the point. There is an alternative path shown on the map to cut out most of the lane, but I didn`t check that out. Not an easy one to follow (using a 50K:1 OS paper map), but well worth it for the scenery.

27 Mar 2022This is a nice walk, mostly across fields with some tracks and lanes. The off-road sections could be very muddy, especially west of Bittia Farm; an alternative is to follow the cycle network lane that runs NE and SW of Coed-y-Paen.
