Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 Apr 2023Needs small adjustments as part of the route used a private road, but there is a nearby footpath which can be used instead.
Currently there are works on the Cheshire lines footpath as the route can’t be fully used. An alternative would be to skip the canal part and go straight down green lane to access the Cheshire lines and then Showrick’s bridge.

13 Nov 2022An alternate route across fields rather than the mostly canal route of the original route, which is very similar to LITMAG.
From the centre of Crosby, a road walk to Thornton. Onto Holgate, where the road becomes a footpath, then crossing the bypass onto good tarmac paths through the green pastures of Lunt.
From the village, a farm track to the Alt. But then the route vanishes; the footpath has been removed, or ploughed out.
The rest of the route works fine: a switchback over an old railway bridge, then along roads and the canal to the end.
If it wasn't for the one field where the path no longer exists, it would be great, albeit foot-only.

12 Jun 2023Although the track is private, I've walked it for many years with no problem, but did notice the nearby footpath.
I deliberately avoided Green Lane as it's unpaved for most of its length. Despite walking it most weekends for about 10 years, it wasn't suitable for a Slow Way.
Thanks for walking and reviewing!
