Description
This is a more direct route between Corsham and Melksham, utilising the same well trodden footpaths between the edge of Corsham and Whitley as Cormel four but sticking to the roads other than that. In addition, the route through Whitley has been slightly tweaked so that it passes directly by the pub and coffee shop. The road between Shaw and Melksham (A365) may look problematic, but it has a wide pavement all the way along and the traffic is limited to 40 mph. It is not unpleasant walking.
Overall, if you are looking for an easy, direct and safe route between Corsham and Melksham, this is a good way to do it

27 Mar 2023Other than taking the 69 Zig Zag bus, this is probably the shortest / quickest route between Corsham and Melksham. I agree with Panifex review, but personally prefer the Pear Tree pub to the cafe. ..............shows where my priorities lie. A smidgen can be cut off the route by going down First Lane, instead of Middle Lane.
The well trodden paths were very muddy in late March, but are vg in high summer
The view coming from Pond Close Farm is far reaching
Whilst I agree there is a pavement for much of the route, the A365 from Shaw to the underpass, whilst 40 mph, the vehicles including buses and lorries often travel faster than that.

20 Dec 2022I walked this route today from Corsham to Melksham, with no difficulties. It has been very wet recently, and some of the fields were a little waterlogged - but nothing too bad, certainly no worse than expected at this time of year. As long as you are wearing sensible footwear there is no problem. Mostly, the paths were very obvious and clear - and very well trodden.
The coffee shop / bike shop in Whitley is recommended!
Cross at the zebra crossing in Shaw just before the church. The walk along the A365, while not exactly picturesque, was no problem at all. The pavement is wide, and the traffic not too fast. It provides a quick and easy way into / out of Melksham.
The Market Tavern by the routes end in Melksham is also very much worth a visit.
