07 Feb 2023I walked from Coppull to Standish on a crisp winter’s day, and I thought this was a lovely route. It was quite muddy in places, and I could hear some noise from the M6, but the openness of the countryside, and the views all around made up for that. It was mostly very easy to follow.
At Hic Bibi Well (Latin for “here I drink”), you don’t need to cross the crumbling bridge that caused Ricka to fail the route. There is another wide, safe crossing of the stream just ten or twenty meters to the east – see annotated picture.

06 Sep 2022I liked this route. Easy footpaths which were well waymarked & sign posted. No stiles or gates along the way. Nice views of Winter Hill and passing by the historic Hic Bibi. Standish was a nice little town too with a Gate House & stocks. I would walk this again.

22 May 2021A direct route starting and finishing in Urban environments. Travelling north from Standish there are some muddy / boggy areas across fields until Hic Bibi Well is reached. At this point the bridge over Bucknow Brook has had a major collapse leaving only a narrow section to cross by. Wigan Council are aware but unfortunately the Brook forms the boundary with Chorley Council so there will be no quick repair while they sort it out between them. (see photo).

07 Feb 2023Be aware that your route at Hic Bibi is not a legal right of way, I'm pointing this out as the farmer who owns this land is a bit difficult to say the least (being polite).
