Description
This is similar to ClaHap 2, but uses a much safer route to access the canal towpath at the Hapton end, avoiding the busy road crossing of the A6068. It is consequently slightly longer

22 Jul 2022If you use the train, please note that Hapton Station is a request stop. I created this route to avoid the dangerous road crossing of ClaHap Two. I have previously walked the road from Hapton Station, and accessed the canal towpath to walk westwards, but I have not walked the towpath between SD 78469 32102 and SD 79392 32060 which makes up 20% of the route. However close inspection of OS Maps aerial view and Google Maps aerial view suggests that the towpath is similar to the rest, which I walked as ClaHap Two, and there is no reason to anticipate problems.
The route is straightforward, easy and pleasant, apart from motorway noise for some of the time. There are wide views, and closer items of interest include bridges, a dilapidated swing bridge and buildings, graffiti, and the Haweswater Aqueduct which is a significant pipe bridge carrying fresh water from the Lake District to Manchester.
At Clayton-le-Moors, after passing under the A680, the route leaves the canal for a short walk to the uninspiring Clayton meeting point.
