Survey Photos
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. 03 Jul 2023 (edited 08 Jul 2023)Mostly easy to follow route but largely on footpaths and consequently with a large number of stiles and kissing gates to obstruct progress of those not on foot. Some road walking but all on quiet roads with minimal traffic. There are sections accessible by those on wheels but they are disjointed. For this review the path was walked from Fairford to Cirencester.
There are some issues with route finding. To the west of Marston Hill farm the path is ill defined and not signposted (photo 2). To the south of Greenacres Park the path is obstructed firstly by some hurdles forming a crude fence and then by crops in the field with no path defined. The way out of this field onto the path is also difficult to find when travelling west (photo 1). The road which later becomes a path due south of Poulton is not marked (photo 3). Later approaching Driffield there is a fallen tree across the path and more crops. The dogleg introduced on the approach to Preston to avoid a level crossing of the A419 trunk road is avoidable if you exercise care; there are effectively two separate crossings of each direction of the dual carriageway.
Facilities are available at Priory Farm near Poulton which has a well used cafe. The Masons Arms at Meysey Hampton is less than 100m off the route. The latter also provides accommodation.
