07 Oct 2023 (edited 13 Oct 2023)Decent, mostly off road route, although many of the paths are close to noisy roads, even in the nature reserve.
The 2 previous reviews mentioned problems at Chafey's Lake, but the path was good when I walked it. I'm sure it gets muddy, but it had been cut, and was firm today. There is a footbridge over the water, perhaps it wasn't there for the previous reviewers. There was a tree down over it today, but I ducked under it, and I'm sure it will be cleared away. Crossing the B3157 took some time as it's busy, but visibility is good.
The plotting is a bit off crossing the A354, but it's obvious where to go on the ground. Once across there is a cycle/footpath and a footpath in the reserve running parallel. You need the reserve path, but there are several chances to join it.
Update 13/10/23 - Dorset council report the tree across the footbridge at Chafey's Lake has been cleared.
Aamwalk
01 Aug 2023I walked from chickerell to Weymouth on a pleasant July day. I suggest using the lower way road to start the route as the northern path tried to go through a dense overgrown path. At the end of lower Putton way you head diagonally across a field with a public right of way, but had a big sign saying no path. You can see the worn path goes to the left of the sign.
There is an issue mid route. As the section the other reviewer called Chafey’s Lake section goes through a shallow pond. I ended up with wet feet and this was July! I suggest instead continuing all the way along Chafreys Avenue and rejoining the route at the roundabout on the A354.
Otherwise an interesting and straightforward route. I extended and explored the Radipole lake nature reserve.

30 Apr 2021A good route, avoiding traffic or more circuitous routes. However, the Chafey’s Lake section is very waterlogged after minimal rainfall. It was impassable in January.
The route has stiles, steps and narrow sections.
