Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Pmostert

24 Aug 2021 Summer

The first part of the current route [Dorchester - Upwey] has two major issues:
1) crossing the A35 at the stadium roundabout south of Dorchester. To me and according http://akweb.org.uk/weyroute/dorch.html this is a no-go. Far to dangerous!
2) walking along the A354 is a nightmare. It's (extremely) noisy, not enjoyable and not beautiful.

My suggestions are:
1) cross the A354 via the Herrington bridge (as suggested for cyclists on route 26)
2) this leaves about 2 - 2.5 km of noisy walking along the A354. This distance can be halved by turning west at Monkton Hill and follow the footpath southwards, all the way to where it meets the B3159 just north of Upwey.

I have not walked the section from Upwey to Chickerell yet.

I have walked the suggested route out of Dorchester using the Herringston Bridge and cannot recommend it to walkers. There are narrow roads after the bridge but the most dangerous point is the humpback hill without a pavement (just an extra bit of pedalling for cyclists). This is not a pedestrian-friendly route.

I forgot to add, Pmostert 2nd suggestion is a great one, I’ll include that in my upload of Chidor 2 route.
